Your Mission
This is a newly created role at Propeller and could be a great fit for someone ready to take the next step in their career! As the Financial Controller, you’ll lead and drive excellence in our financial reporting and accounting processes. In this role, you’ll oversee core accounting activities like month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger controllership, all while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
You’ll help shape the future of our Finance team by streamlining cross-functional processes, championing automation, and driving efficiency to support our growth. From tackling technical accounting challenges to maintaining strong internal controls, you’ll play a key role in building a best-in-class function.
Core Responsibilities:
Ownership of Financial functions
- You’ll be the key owner of Propeller’s historical financials, responsible for accuracy and completeness, overseeing accounting operations, month-end close, general ledger control, variance analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Create and implement plans to enhance and reduce the timeline of the monthly close, building new processes and reporting.
- Support external audit teams to ensure timely completion, understand where improvements can be made, and incorporate these into an overall process improvement strategy.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Leadership
- Leading a team of high performing finance professionals. Coach, mentor and drive the strategy and journey of change in your team. You’ll influence the structure and processes to be best in class for a growing Finance function
- Partnering with teams across Propeller on technical accounting issues and ensuring timely financial reporting.
Strategy
- Drive automation and efficiency within the Accounting team, fostering scalable processes and introducing innovative best-in-class practices to support Propeller’s growth.
- Continuous improvement around the evaluation, development, implementation, and maintenance of Propeller’s internal control policies and procedures
Qualifications and skills you'll bring
- Extensive experience in Accounting, ideally as an Assistant Controller/Controller. In a SaaS company is a big plus!
- Proven success in streamlining month-end close timelines and enhancing processes to support company needs and strong controls. Experience specifically in Xero would be a plus
- Exposure to global accounting operations and activities is critical
- You have a collaborative leadership style, with strong coaching and mentorship skills. You practice open feedback and nurture a team culture that promotes collaboration and inclusivity
- Experience leading global teams through change, with a hands-on approach
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with and influence senior and external stakeholders
