Role Overview:
As the PEO Accounting Manager, you will take full ownership of all financial reconciliation activities for Deel's PEO services. This leadership role is essential in balancing the books of the PEO business, ensuring accuracy in quarter-end reconciliation, tax filings, benefit payments, and client invoicing. You will be responsible for managing the PEO’s accounting functions, ensuring all financial processes are compliant, and making sure that all deductions for taxes, benefits, and salaries align with payments to tax agencies, carriers, and clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with PEO accounting, tax regulations, and exceptional reconciliation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Financial Oversight: Oversee all PEO-related financial activities, ensuring accurate financial reconciliation, tax filings, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Take full responsibility for balancing the books for the PEO business, ensuring it operates efficiently and profitably.
Manage Accounting Functions: Lead the accounting functions, including the maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management.
Quarter-End Reconciliation: Manage the quarter-end reconciliation process for all PEO financial activities, ensuring payroll, tax, benefits, and client deductions align with payments made to agencies and vendors.
Benefits Reconciliation: Reconcile benefit deductions against premiums paid to carriers, ensuring that both client contributions and employee deductions are accurately processed.
Client Invoicing & Credits: Process client payments and ensure client invoices accurately reflect all payroll, tax, and benefit costs. Execute required refunds for client credits resulting from overpayments or tax refunds received by Deel from tax agencies.
Underpayments & Refunds: Identify underpayments and submit necessary remittances to tax agencies. Process refunds to clients for overpayments and credits due to tax refunds or reconciliation corrections.
Compliance Assurance: Ensure all financial activities comply with tax and accounting regulations, including company registrations, corporate tax filings, and adherence to federal, state, and other regulatory requirements.
Data Integrity: Maintain accurate and organized financial records of all transactions related to payroll, taxes, and benefits for the PEO division.
Reporting: Provide regular updates and detailed reports to senior leadership on the status of reconciliations, and any outstanding payment or compliance issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with payroll, legal, finance, and operations teams to ensure that financial activities align with operational processes and remain compliant with legal standards.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in reconciliation and financial processes to enhance accuracy ,and reduce errors.
Key Qualifications:
5+ years of accounting experience in a PEO, payroll, or related industry.
Management experience leading a team of accountants.
Strong understanding of PEO-specific financial reconciliation and benefit payment management.
Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in deductions, payments, and client invoicing.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
In-depth understanding of U.S. payroll tax regulations and benefits administration.
Experience reconciling multi-state payroll and tax obligations, with knowledge of PEO-level tax agencies.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve discrepancies.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, especially during quarter-end cycles.
Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with PrismHR or similar PEO-specific platforms.
Experience with MasterTax or similar Payroll Tax softwares
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other relevant accounting certifications.
Experience working with global payroll systems and reconciling multi-country financials.
