PagerDuty is seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer - Platform to join our diverse, customer-focused team in Lisbon! As Senior Front-End Engineer, you will you’ll be working on the team leading PagerDuty in creating and implementing a new design system and component library. The App Experience team works closely with other product development teams internally who will leverage the design system and component library to build new products. We’re also working closely with customers and partners to better understand their needs as it comes to platform flexibility and customizability; our larger, more sophisticated customers, in particular, are asking for a high level of customizability in terms of how they manage real-time work (such as alerts, incidents, post-mortems, security events, etc). The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of design systems, the ability to lead a small team in terms of documentation and best practices, superior communication skills, and strong front-end (React) development skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as long term and partner with designers and engineers to build a design system and component library that will be used across PagerDuty.
- Design and architect the set of flexible platform building blocks that will become the PagerDuty Platform.
- Working closely with teams, building on top of our design system and component library to understand their needs, gather their feedback, and communicate with them on a regular basis.
- From day one, you’ll be architecting, coding, testing, and shipping frontend components and libraries that ensure we deliver secure, highly reliable, and scalable solutions to our customers.
- Since we own and operate what we build, you’ll collaborate closely with engineers across teams.
- Curate the frontend design system and component library in a complex distributed system.
- Develop and use frontend architecture patterns that scale across the engineering organization and provide better user and developer experiences.
- Write unit and integration tests.
- Own and shepherd projects that our team takes on.
- Champion accessibility on the web and its usage in the component library.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- You have at least 6+ yearsof experience building and managing web apps using a modern component-based framework.
- Experience building npm packages including bundling and distribution.
- Deep understanding of semantic HTML, CSS, and client-side TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Must have experience working with React, have worked on distributed React apps, and be familiar with NodeJS/bundling tools required.
- Have a deep understanding of modern styling techniques on the web including, CSS-in-JS frameworks and CSS modules.
- Knowledge about core parts of frontend engineering (state management, performance, accessibility, styling, infrastructure).
- You will be participating in your team’s on-call rotation, triaging and addressing production issues as they arise.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with open-source UI component libraries like Chakra, MUI, or similar.
